BEST fishing store in Alaska? I’m going on a cruise, when in Port want to find transportation and fishing spots. Who really knows, definitely not the cruise ship or travel agent. Basically looking for any local and help in and around Seattle on 8/12, Vancouver on 8/13, Ketchikan 8/16 Juneau 8/27 Skagway on 8/28 and Anchorage Alaska on 8/21?????? Also INFO on weather, clothes, bait, guides and tours? But I think the best info I have seen is on the Alaska’s fish and game website. However it doesn’t explain transportation or rate spots. On one chat site, it suggested a taxi and the other a bus and the last a rent a car? What do you know? Moroever where I can get better info, maybe a local shop or hotel, got any suggestions?

Alaska: Summer Fishing Job? I currently live in South Dakota and attend South Dakota State University. I work on a farm when not in school. I was wondering if any novice fisherman or anyone who knows the ins and outs of the fishing world in Alaska could tell me about this job and where I can look for hiring? I do not need to hear the hard work aspect of it, I know it is demanding but I am not shy of hard work due to growing up on a farm. Now then, I recently overheard other people talking about the good money people working in the fishing industry can make and in a short time. Why do Lodges in Alaska insist on selling lodging/fishing packages to everyone who wants to vacation there? I had the hardest time finding a Lodge in Alaska when I went there on vacation that would allow me to design my own vacation itenary, instead of being tied to the guides they require and all the activities they dictate. I am very happy with the Salmon Catcher Lodge, which allowed me to design my own activities.
What can I realistically make working in the Alaska fishing industry for a year? I want to spend a year in Alaska working as either a deckhand or a processor to make $20,000 for traveling. To get my feet wet, I want to start working as a seafood processor, then, hopefully, move on to working on fishing boats. So, I was wondering what I could expect to make throughout a year on average. Getting two different estimates would be nice. One if I started working as a deckhand after my initial stint as a processor, and another if I just stayed as a processor the entire time. And yes, I'm prepared to work my butt off in harsh, cold, wet weather. I don't care. I'll just be thinking of the up to two years of traveling I'll be doing after I'm done!

Alaska salmon fishing? I am going to Alaska in mid-August to fish for silvers (coho), and pinks (humpys). Anybody have a recommendation for a river that won't have a ton of people on it? I plan on fishing the Kenai and Russian rivers, but was wondering if anybody knew of some smaller rivers in the same area that are a little less pressured by fisherman.
