Alaskan Camper Rentals

I am considering driving to Alaska for fun before the summer traffic starts. May seems like the best time to go. I have a newer SUV or can rent a big RV for half price since I am really transporting it for the rental company. I've done it before from Arizona to Virginia so I know that RV. What I would like to know is can I expect to get there without damage to my own SUV or the RV? Damage by rocks or bad road conditions? Any suggestions on how to go or to research this will be appreciated.

Me and my friends are planning a trip to Alaska next summer for about a month. We are willing to just camp if necessary but would prefer to rent out a small cabin or something. Everything I have found on the internet is so fancy and expensive. We just need something small and basic and most importantly cheap. Ideas?

when we plan a vacation next summer in Alaska. We plan to fly to Alaska and rent a vehicle. An RV is expensive. We heard about pickup truck campers that the major car rental places rent. Would they be cheaper? Any ideas on how to rent a camper that isn't so expensive?

They are offering a half price special on renting campers, etc. You have to pay in full for a rental reservation by October 31st. We are thinking about this summer but are concerned about paying in full so early. Anyone know about this company. Are they reputable and good to do business with? Offer sounds good but is it too good to be true??

I have steak knives and butcher knives and butter knives, just your normal kitchen stuff. These things are in my motorhome. Does this mean if I'm at a campground in Canada and decide to barbeque steaks, I have to pull them apart with my hands? Heard you couldn't take knives across the boarder into Canada?

I drove it years back in a motorhome, had a terrific time. Now my sons and I are toying with the the idea of riding it next summer, perhpas carrying a small tent and camping gear. Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas? Thanks.

We will be traveling by motorhome once we are there. Whale watching, Glaciers, raft rides, fishing, hot springs, etc. What kind of clothes should we pack? I have been researching and getting such a wide range of temperatures. I am just not sure how much and what to pack. I have never been there, and we will be experiencing as much as possible while there.

David in Kenai: please answer this if you know. I am going with my boyfriend to Alaska for 7 days leaving 22nd August and returning 29 August home. We know what we want to do; kayak or canoe in Prince William Sound, see the fjords in Kenai, flightseeing over Denali, maybe fishing one day and of course hiking. There are no available campsites at Wonder Lake, so which of the other campgrounds in Denali would you recommend? And from Anchorage do you suggest we go south first or north first? Anyone else have ideas?

I’m going on a cruise, when in Port want to find transportation and fishing spots. Who really knows, definitely not the cruise ship or travel agent. Basically looking for any local and help in and around Seattle on 8/12, Vancouver on 8/13, Ketchikan 8/16 Juneau 8/27 Skagway on 8/28 and Anchorage Alaska on 8/21?????? Also INFO on weather, clothes, bait, guides and tours? But I think the best info I have seen is on the Alaska’s fish and game website. However it doesn’t explain transportation or rate spots. On one chat site, it suggested a taxi and the other a bus and the last a rent a car? What do you know? Moroever where I can get better info, maybe a local shop or hotel, got any suggestions?

$240.00 a day rental fee.. $500.00 dollar deposit on a class C MH. Advertised as fully equiped and ready to go. IF you call I roll on toilet paper fully equiped then I SHOULD have been in hog heaven.. Could go on for ever and ever IF you are thinking of rentinfg an RV STAY AWAY FROM ABC Rentals.

Every year we do a family vacation. Typically, this means packing the tent in the SUV, and hitting the road to discover some new part of the Western US, where we live. Every 5th year, however, we splurge on a big vacation, and 2010 is our splurge year. This year, we are planning on going to AK! We are debating between taking a cruise or flying into Anchorage and exploring via rental car/RV. We love exploring nature, seeing wildlife, camping, and hiking, and love to get away from the crowds and enjoy our vacations on our own terms... spontaneously, with a flexibly-planned agenda. That said, we think that a land-based vacation in Southern AK would be our best bet. However, we are also strongly considering a cruise for the following reasons: 1) None of us have ever been on a cruise 2) We love the ocean and sailing on boats 3) Airfare, hotel, vehicle rental + food may cost MORE than a cruise 4) We live in Seattle, so we could drive to Seattle and/or Vancouver for the cruise ship, limiting/eliminating airfare altogether 5) For seeing the inside passage, the logistics of a cruise ship make total sense (BTW, we've also priced out the ferry system, and it seems pretty pricey too!) 6) It is totally different than our non-splurge vacations where we spend so much time in the car, so the kids would probably love the change of pace/scenery. For those who may be saying, "why not do both?" I couldn't agree more! What could be better than taking a cruise from Seattle to Seward, and then renting a car to explore Southern AK, staying in hotels along the way, and then flying home to Seattle? This would be awesome, if the cost weren't prohibitive! So, if you were in our shoes, what would you do and why?

Am thinking of taking one of the Baja caravan tours with our motor home. The brochures offer all the glitzy, positive highlights but I'm wondering about the "dark side" of these trips. Any experience out there?

Insteas of using Motels and Hotels for accom. We intend to rent a 4 berth camper van for a long trip up the west coast, taking in Monkey mia, Broom, Derby and finally ending our journey in Halls Creek, where we will visit Wolf Ceeek Crater and come out alive. Our trip will last about 3 weeks and most of it will be on the road. Any tips on how to do this trip effectively and cheaply, and approx. how much money should I budget for the van? The reason we are taking a van is so we can stop off when the sceenery is best and stay as long as we like. Is travelling in WA safe and what safeguards should I be looking at? Any other practical advice from experienced travellers welcome. If you know of a place that a camper would be vunerable to theft or towns that are unsafe. This kind of info is appreciated. i normally go to shelter island pier and ive been catching mackeral. ive never had any experience in any other fish and i wanna know how to catch those 24 inch halibuts at the pier? i set a weight and the hook about 1 to 2 feet down. im gonna use squid to catch it but im not sure what size of squid should i use or if i should use the whole thing. i normally use thin 2 inch long strips for halibut and i wanna know any other techniques for 24 inch halibuts while pier fishing. is there a better bait for halibut?

So, I was thinking about driving to Alaska from South Carolina. I would rent a car, drive to Alaska, then fly back. Would rental cars allow this...crossing through Canada and dropping it off in AK? Purpose: Just to say you've done it. Cost isn't an issue. I'd probably set aside about 10 days to meander my way there, spend a few days in Alaska, then fly back.
